A Visit to Live Power Farm

And what an amazing visit it was …

Here’s a video that has a pretty good synopsis of Live Power Farm.  http://youtu.be/YBmMLGuiJcE

“Associative Economics” was the word of  the day.  Live Power runs a CSA where the members equally share the budget, risks, and rewards of the farm. If there’s extra harvest – it goes to the members!

Green Uprising – Exciting Tour With Another Local Farm

So … after some rather adventurous undertakings, Michael Foley gave us a tour of his several gardens a Green Uprising.

Michael has been farming with his wife, Sarah, for about 5 years.  They are inspired by Alan Chadwick and Ecology Action.  He has several WWOOF’ers on his farm and has been involved in the raw milk movement.

Here’s an article on a Cease and Desist order from a Ukiah Blog

Tour of Mendocino Organics

Today we toured a biodynamic animal vegetable farm, Mendocino Organics. Adam learned Grow Biointensive and double dug a half acre before he realized It wouldn’t scale.

Below are pics of his green house, walk behind plow, flood irrigation, squash planting, and out 3:30PM lunch.

Between the 9 of us, we planted about 4000 squash plants in 3 hours in about 40,000 square feet. Would be interesting to compare the yields and labor required to Grow Biointensive.
